The recreational paddles are suitable and open to families, clubs, paddlers of all ages and abilities and can be paddled in any type of craft. So dust down your boat and come and join us on these social paddles.  If you don’t have a boat you can hire an open canoe or sea kayak from CANI at a reasonable cost. Appropriate paddling kit should be brought, everyone should also be self sufficient for camping i.e. food, stove and tent etc.

Meet and Trip Plan:
We will meet on Saturday the 28th April at Access Point 9, Smiths Strand Share Holiday Village on the Lough Erne Trail for a 10am start and hope to finish on Sunday 29th April at Access Point 9 for 4pm. The two day’s paddle will be relaxed and we will spend our night camping on Tranish Island, please bring enough food for the camping trip.

We will be hiring the Bothy for this trip, however it will be used for shelter, washing, cooking and socialising but not for sleeping.

All paddles are subject to weather conditions.

Venue Discription:
Fermanagh is an ideal destination for the canoeing enthusiast with its magnificent lakes of Upper and Lower Lough Erne providing a 50 kilometre expanse of water linking with the Shannon.
The Lough Erne Canoe Trail was presented the Innovation Award at the 2008 British Urban Regeneration Waterways Renaissance Awards becoming the first Northern Irish project ever to win such an award.   Lower Lough Erne and its rugged shoreline provide a vast expanse of open water where large waves can build during windy periods - an ideal venue for the experienced paddler! In stark contrast the Upper Lough provides good shelter with its maze of bays, narrow channels of slow flowing water and innumerable islands and peninsulas - offering a superb venue for the whole family.

Costs:
The cost of this trip will be £10.00 to CANI Members and £20.00 for Non Members.

The cost for Boat hire will be £10.00 to CANI Members and £15.00 for Non Members if you require Boat, Paddle, and Buoyancy Aid please note it in the additional information on the booking form.

“If you plan to take part in more than one recreation paddle why not take out recreational membership at a cost of £18 per year or family membership at a cost of £25 introductory and £5 for each additional member per year.  This would be much more economical, as recreational paddles are free to all members and the cost of boat hire is at a reduced price.”
